Man's breast

Information on the male breast

Quite a few men have slightly more pronounced breasts. Above a certain size, this is perceived as "feminine" and these men feel less "masculine". Who wants to be asked about their chest when doing sport or wearing a T-shirt in summer?

In medicine, the excessive growth of the male breast is referred to as "gynecomastia". During puberty, there is probably a hormonally induced swelling of the breasts, which later disappears again. However, it also happens that the breast volume does not completely regress.

This can be caused by the (undesirable) presence of real glandular tissue or by an increased accumulation of fat in the subcutaneous area. It can be genetic, or caused by poor diet / weight gain, especially by drinking too much beer.

Accordingly, a distinction is made between "real" (true) gynecomastia (when unwanted breast glandular tissue is localized behind the nipple in men) - or a supposed (pseudo-) gynecomastia (when the breast volume is due to a local accumulation of fat).

Male breasts - the most important facts in brief

Further details on the male breast

First of all, an appropriate medical history must be taken to clarify any underlying diseases; then the definitive condition must be assessed; an ultrasound examination of the breast is essential beforehand to see whether real glandular tissue is present.

It is usually possible to permanently eliminate the problem by suctioning out the fatty tissue. However, the removal of the glandular part is important, which is why a small incision is often made at the edge of the areola in order to surgically remove the glandular tissue behind the nipple. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in twilight sleep. After injecting a "tumescent solution", the fatty tissue is sucked out through small puncture points using a cannula, leaving no permanent scars. (see also under "Liposuction"). Any necessary incision at the edge of the nipple usually heals almost invisibly so that the procedure is not visible later.

Real complications are extremely rare with this procedure. However, swelling and slight bruising may occur, and there may also be sensory disturbances, both hypo- and hypersensitivity in the nipple area, which usually disappear after a short time.

After the operation, we apply an elastic bandage that slightly compresses the breast to prevent post-operative bleeding. After a short recovery period, you can resume your everyday life, and we will carry out short-term accompanying wound healing checks in our practice.

If glandular tissue is present, health insurance companies often cover the costs of this surgery (medical indication - this must be applied for from the health insurance company beforehand). However, the additional liposuction that is usually required must be paid for by the patient, as this is more of an aesthetic problem.

Otherwise, as with any cosmetic procedure, the surgery fee is made up of the anesthesia fee, the duration of the surgery and our fee note. We will discuss these costs with you in detail beforehand and a fixed fee will be set, regardless of how long the procedure ultimately takes. This allows you to calculate precisely.

The estimate is CHF 6800 to CHF 9000.

The cost of an initial on-site consultation is CHF 250. This amount can be credited towards your treatment if it takes place within 6 months. If you do not show up for the bindingly agreed initial appointment, a cancellation fee of CHF 150 will be charged.

The following rule applies to agreed surgery appointments: In the case of planned and scheduled operations, it is often not possible for Medicine&Beauty AG to find a replacement patient in the event of a cancellation. Due to these planning difficulties, it is only possible to cancel surgery appointments free of charge if this is done in writing by the customer at least 7 days (calendar days) in advance by e-mail or WhatsApp.

For cancellations made less than 7 calendar days before the planned operation, the customer will be charged 50% of the previously agreed operation costs. Appointments canceled by Medicine&Beauty AG for health, medical or technical reasons cannot be refunded or compensated. An alternative date will be offered at no additional cost.
