Eyelid lift

Information on eyelid lifting

The eyes are the sensory organ that receives by far the most data from our perception and transmits it to the brain for further processing. However, it is also the most expressive sensory organ, as we also make contact through our eyes, be it when greeting another person, during a lecture in a larger group or in a partnership, when flirting, etc.

An open, radiant gaze always appears friendly, open-minded, alert and dynamic - a closed gaze with drooping eyelids or swollen bags under the eyes appears sullen, depressed, closed, adynamic and tired. As the gaze always wanders to the eye area first when looking at another person, this region also has a special significance in aesthetic surgery.

An eyelid lift makes the eyes look fresher again, resulting in a positive, alert expression. Droopy eyelids form when the skin loses its elasticity and the muscles of the eyelid and the connective tissue give way.

Further details on eyelid lifting

Droopy eyelids form when the skin loses its elasticity and the muscles of the eyelid and the connective tissue give way.

Like the entire human skin, the eyelids are also subject to an ageing process, which is particularly pronounced here due to the lifelong exposure to UV light, but especially due to the incessant movements of the eyes and eyelids. Ultimately, the skin in the eyelid area is particularly thin and the connective tissue fibers are significantly less pronounced than in other parts of the body.

Gaps often also develop in the muscles of the eye and fatty tissue is pushed forward from the eye socket into the eyelid area. These so-called "fat pads" are subject to a particular tendency to oedema and cause heavy, puffy eyes in the upper eyelid area and so-called "bags under the eyes" in the lower eyelid area.

An eyelid lift makes the eyes look fresher again, resulting in a positive, alert expression. More and more men are also rejuvenating their appearance with this type of procedure.

In the lower eyelid area, access to the relevant tissue layers can be gained either from the side of the conjunctiva (transconjunctival) or from the outside through an incision below the edge of the eyelashes (transcutaneous), whereby often only a little skin but significantly more fatty tissue has to be removed. In this way, a sophisticated aesthetic result with youthful expressiveness can be achieved. However, the operation cannot restore the former elasticity of the skin itself.

An upper eyelid lift / blepharoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis under light sedation and local anesthesia. First, the contour of the skin and the fatty tissue to be removed are marked. An incision is always made in the natural fold around the eye so that a barely visible scar remains after removal of the excess skin and any pre-swollen fatty tissue.

This allows the eyelid to be lifted in a precisely planned manner and the shape of the eyelid can also be varied if desired. The incision is adapted using the finest suture material, leaving only a barely visible, fine scar that gradually becomes less and less visible.

For a lower eyelid lift / fat tissue removal, an approach is usually chosen from the inside of the eyelid via the conjunctiva. Here, the tissue is opened with a very fine electric needle and the excess fatty tissue is carefully removed. This access does not even need to be closed with a suture. It heals spontaneously in a few days. Only rarely does an incision need to be made from the outside of the eyelid below the edge of the eyelashes in order to remove excess skin from the lower eyelid.

Visual performance is not impaired; there is usually no pain. However, swelling and often slight bruising are unavoidable; more serious complications after an eyelid lift are extremely rare. As with all operations, infections, hematomas and post-operative bleeding can affect the wound healing process.

Any swelling or discoloration in the eyelid or eye area will disappear within 7-14 days. Daily cooling and elevation of the head during sleep for the first 3-5 days will reduce the swelling.

The plasters are removed after 3 days, the stitches after 8-10 days.Sport should be avoided for 14 days.

As with any cosmetic procedure, the cost of blepharoplasty varies depending on the type and duration of the operation and the type of anesthesia. Of course, all costs incurred will be discussed in advance. Health insurance companies will only cover the costs of such a procedure if the visual field is severely restricted, which must be certified by an expert beforehand.

Price for an upper or lower eyelid lift: from CHF 4,800

The cost of an initial on-site consultation is CHF 250. This amount can be credited towards your treatment if it takes place within 6 months. If you do not show up for the bindingly agreed initial appointment, a cancellation fee of CHF 250 will be charged.

The following rule applies to agreed surgery appointments: In the case of planned and scheduled operations, it is often not possible for Medicine&Beauty AG to find a replacement patient in the event of a cancellation. Due to these planning difficulties, it is only possible to cancel surgery appointments free of charge if this is done in writing by the customer at least 7 days (calendar days) in advance by e-mail or WhatsApp.

For cancellations made less than 7 calendar days before the planned operation, the customer will be charged 50% of the previously agreed operation costs. Appointments canceled by Medicine&Beauty AG for health, medical or technical reasons cannot be refunded or compensated. An alternative date will be offered at no additional cost.
