Breast reduction

Information on breast reduction

Very ample breasts can be a heavy psychological burden for the women affected, but also physically they are often an obstacle in sports, leisure activities, choice of clothes and can often cause physical complaints due to the lifelong tension in the cervical spine and neck muscles.

If a woman wants a more petite, pleasing bust, a corrective operation can help to improve her appearance and regain any lost self-esteem.

In order to reduce the size of the breast, glandular and fatty tissue must be removed from the breast body on the one hand, and on the other hand the skin of the breast must be reduced and tightened due to the reduced volume.

Who better to assess and shape the breast tissue than an experienced aesthetic gynecologist?

Further details on breast reduction

The type of procedure depends on the one hand, of course, on the patient's ideas about her new breasts, and on the other hand on the existing conditions, the elasticity of the skin, the amount of existing glandular tissue, the degree of ptosis (i.e. sagging of the breast) and other factors.

In a detailed, very personal consultation, the patient's expectations must be compared with the medically and surgically possible result and the surgeon must choose the best way to achieve new, firm, aesthetic breasts. The rules of conduct are the same as for breast augmentation.

The surgical incision depends on the chosen surgical technique, the breast size, the existing breast volume, the width of the breast base and the individual skin condition. As a rule, the incision is made around the nipple and vertically downwards to the inframammary fold.

For more extensive reductions, an additional transverse incision is required in the lower breast fold. Tissue and skin are removed from the lower part of the breast. You should not generally rely on a scar-saving surgical technique, as this does not always achieve an optimal breast shape.

It is often better to accept a slightly wider scar in exchange for a well-proportioned bust. After all, the scars from the operation fade after just a few months and often only a thin line remains, which an unknowing observer will not notice. In any case, the surgeon will try to keep the unavoidable incisions as small and inconspicuous as possible so that they are concealed even by a skimpy bikini.

Real complications are very rare with this procedure. However, infections or postoperative bleeding are possible events that require more intensive follow-up care.

During the healing process, there may be sensory disturbances, both hypo- and hypersensitivity in the nipple area, which usually subside quickly. In extremely rare cases, a circulatory problem during the healing phase can lead to hardening of the tissue or changes in the pigmentation of the nipple. Correction of widened scars may be necessary in rare cases if the patient is predisposed to this.

After the operation, we will apply an elastic latex bandage to keep the breast in shape. After 2-3 days (after the first bandage change) you will wear a well-fitting sports bra; this should be worn day and night for 3 weeks, then only during the day for a further 3 weeks.

After a short recovery period, you can return to your everyday life, and we carry out short-term accompanying wound healing checks in our practice.

The operation is quite lengthy and requires highly competent preparation of the tissue and conscientious hemostasis. The skin is also readapted in several layers and is time-consuming.

As with any cosmetic procedure, the cost of surgery depends on the type and extent of the operation. These are made up of the anesthesia fee, the duration of the operation and our fee note. We will discuss these costs with you in detail beforehand and a fixed fee will be set, regardless of how long the procedure ultimately takes. This allows you to calculate precisely. As this is an elective procedure, the costs are not usually covered by health insurance.

The postoperative behavioral rules are the same as for a breast lift or breast augmentation.

Price for breast reduction surgery:

from CHF 13,000

The cost of an initial on-site consultation is CHF 250. This amount can be credited towards your treatment if it takes place within 6 months. If you do not show up for the bindingly agreed initial appointment, a cancellation fee of CHF 150 will be charged.

The following rule applies to agreed surgery appointments: In the case of planned and scheduled operations, it is often not possible for Medicine&Beauty AG to find a replacement patient in the event of a cancellation. Due to these planning difficulties, it is only possible to cancel surgery appointments free of charge if this is done in writing by the customer at least 7 days (calendar days) in advance by e-mail or WhatsApp.

For cancellations made less than 7 calendar days before the planned operation, the customer will be charged 50% of the previously agreed operation costs. Appointments canceled by Medicine&Beauty AG for health, medical or technical reasons cannot be refunded or compensated. An alternative date will be offered at no additional cost.
